How to prepare your files

We have been inundated with enquiries about how best to prepare your files for us to work with, so we have provided you with this simple guide. We will continue to add to this as needed.

What program should I use to create my design?

You can supply your files in any of the major design formats such as .psd, .png, .ai, .jpeg, .gif, etc. If possible, we prefer to work with layered Photoshop® files.

What colour space (mode) should I be using?

You should be using the RGB colour space to create your files. CMYK colours vary dramatically from RGB, if you send your files in CMYK, we will convert it to RGB and get your approval before we start.

Can you apply text effects to HTML text?

Some effects such as shadows and glows on fonts can be implented using CSS3, however only a limited number of modern browsers are supported at this stage. Please make a note in the Client Notes section if you require this or contact us for more information.

Should I flatten my text layers?

Where possible, please leave text editable, particularly content and navigation text. In the case of using non-web safe fonts, please either supply us with the font, create outlines or flatten the text. If you are unsure, please contact us for more information.

What fonts should I use for navigational menus or headings?

If there are non-web safe fonts used for the navigation or headings, please specify if those elements should be made using images (recommended), or if there should be a substitution of the font. You can pick the subsitution font from the available web safe fonts here, you can learn more about web safe fonts here.

If you absolutely require the use of a font replacement technology such as Scalable Inman Flash Replacement (sIFR), please let us know in the Client Notes.

What fonts should I use for my content?

You can only use web safe fonts for content. You can see a list of the web safe fonts here, you can learn more about web safe fonts here.

Do I need to send custom fonts to you?

Yes, if there are files additional to your pages (e.g. custom fonts), don't forget to send or upload them too. Please make sure that you have purchased the fonts (if they are not free) and have a license to use any custom fonts on your website.

How should I upload or send files to you?

It's best to zip all of your files into one folder and name your folder with the date and your name. For example, BobJohnston11032010.zip. This helps us greatly and ensures that we get your order right!

I haven't completed my design, should I send it to you?

You can send through incomplete designs to us during the quote process to give us a good idea with what we are working with and allow us to quote accordingly, but you do need to inform us that they are incomplete by making a note in the Client Notes section.

When you send your final design to us and we begin the slicing and coding process, you cannot make changes to your design, as even a small change in your design can mean big work for us, and ultimately more cost to you. So please be sure when you send the final design, that you are 100% happy with it! If you require changes, a new quote will be issued for the requested changes.

I am still unsure about something

We're a friendly bunch here at DiamondHTML , and there are no stupid questions, so if you are unsure about anything, just ask! Many of our clients are strictly design professionals and do not know much about the development or coding side, so we understand that you may not know it all.
