Little Heroes - Big Splash
One Adelaidean's quest to not only smash the English Channel but raise $100K for charity doing it
Swimming the English Channel has been a dream of Shannon Welk's for a few years now. Combining his dream with another goal of raising $100,000 for the Little Heroes foundation makes it even more special.
Shannon talks about his reasoning behind doing what he's doing "As a kid I spent my toddler years growing up in the coastal town of Karratha in Western Australia! Swimming and the beach has always been something that interested me so when we moved to Adelaide when I was 9 I joined the Port Noarlunga SLSC and started nippers.
From there I have grown up with the ocean and the sport of Surf Life Saving competing for several clubs including Mullaloo (Western Australia), North Caloundra (Sunshine Coast), Surfers Paradise (Gold Coast) and my favourite club where my wife and daughters are also members Seacliff SLSC.
Swimming the English Channel has been a dream of mine for several years and now that my children have reached an age where they can come along for the ride it’s time to take up the challenge."
